With just a few ingredients you can bake this Christmas roll sugar cookies for the holidays.
Theres little trick you can use the premade mixture for sugar cookies to get you started like this one from Betty Crocker.
Or you can use a favorite sugar cookie recipe like this one from Sallys Baking Addiction.
Then grab a few of your favorite holiday sprinkles like these red sprinkles, green sprinkles and Christmas sprinkles.
Have the kids mix together one package of Sugar Cookie Mix. Our package required a stick of butter and one egg to be mixed in to create the sugar cookie dough.
Now its time for the fun part to get the kids involved in the kitchen.
First, start out by sprinkling some flour on the parchment paper to keep the dough from sticking and press the dough out onto parchment paper to create a rectangle.
To get the ultimate Christmas color combination use the sprinkles in alternation blocks on the dough and sprinkle them onto the pressed dough.
We used both red and green sprinkles to decorate these holiday cookies.
Then the next step is to roll up the pressed dough like a cinnamon roll. As you roll you add the third type of sprinkle to press into the other side of the dough for extra holiday spirit!
Dont they look so festive, you know the kids will love this part!
Once youve rolled up the cookie dough with sprinkles its time to form the actual cookies.
To do this cut into slices about thick and place 2 apart on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.
If youre doing this step with the kids, keeping the dough cooler will help make the steps easier.
Then they can easily pick up the rolled dough and space it out onto the cookie sheet are your little Santas helper.
The final step is to bake the Christmas roll sugar cookies for 9-10 minutes, depending on your oven.
Just watch for them to become lightly browned around the edges.
The kids love watching with the light on as the cookies change before their eyes on this final step. We do this as were cleaning up the kitchen as pretend to be busy little elves.
Once they are ready, remove the holiday roll cookies from the oven and let cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes before moving to a cookie rack to cool.
The colors on these cookies are so much fun for the holiday season. Each holiday cookies is its one little delicious piece of Christmas art that the kids can share with loved ones.
