Why a Feelings & Emotions Journal?

Like many families, adjusting to all of the changes life has presented in 2020 has been challenging for our family. We have had to make so many changes – from finding a system that works with all of us working/learning from home, to shifting work responsibilities and financial stress, to sourcing groceries safely, to trying to balance screen time limits when so much of school and entertainment is online, and most importantly of all, helping to support the mental and emotional health of our kids as they work through the many and varied issues that have stemmed from isolation from extended family, friends, school, hobbies and their normal, everyday routine.

It’s been such a challenge for us, and for so many families we know.

These challenges inspired me to finish a project I started some time ago – the creation of a creative, social emotional learning journal for kids. And I am so excited with how it has turned out!

What age are the journal pages suitable for?

This will depend upon the individual child but, as a guide, we recommend 8-12 years of age. We say around the age of 8 years but this will depend upon your child’s reading, writing and drawing abilities, as will their ability to complete the pages with relative independence.

Why Social Emotional Learning?

Social emotional learning helps children learn to manage their emotions, reflect upon their own strengths and weaknesses, develop stronger relationships with others, and make good choices. These skills provide an important foundation for emotional health and wellbeing.

These journal pages allow you to engage children with these skills in fun and engaging ways, through creative responses such as writing and drawing.
