How to Practice Creative Mindfulness

Posted by admin on

We're sharing a few books, calendars, and thought-starters to help you practice creative mindfulness and enjoy the little moments.

I feel like we haven't seen a whole lot of silver linings since March. The kids went are going back to school mostly online and lots of the outlets that gave moms a break seem like they won't be available for a long, long time. Until we get a vaccine, I'm not optimistic that we will be back to normal. I'm already exhausted playing teacher, coach and head chef!

Four Ways to Put More Mindfulness Into Your Day

What I need is a creative outlet and a cleansing breath of creativity... And that's why I'm loving these books, journals, calendars, and thought-starters.

A Book That Takes Its Time: An Unhurried Adventure in Creative Mindfulness, by Irene Smit and Astrid van der Hulst is a juxtaposition of essays, articles, poetry, quotes, journaling pages, stickers, collage paper, and interactive sundries, A Book That Takes Its Time encourages readers to explore the mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits of mindfulness.

Featuring punch-out postcards, bound-in notebooks and other "surprises," it's a tactile way for readers to put mindfulness lessons immediately into practice. It's an outlet to help you slow down and savor the spontaneous moments. It even offers readers a 30-day mini course in mindful analysis.

Every Day Is Epic

This clever and colorful book by Mary Kate McDevitt is a guided journal that's great for thinkers, day dreamers, and creative types... or those wanting to delve into their spiritual side.

In this age of social media, we're always comparing ourselves, and perhaps worrying that our own lives don't measure up. But every day has possibility and potential to be epic (even if it is filled with errands and laundry). You just have to learn how to frame it. Every journal entry is a jumping off point for creativity and self reflection with inspiring prompts, upbeat affirmations, and interactive doodles.

Every Day Is Epic teachers readers to embrace all the moments from the major milestones to the monotonous.

A Year of Tiny Pleasures Calendar

This tiny calendar serves as a daily reminder to celebrate the simple things in life, the seemingly small joys that make every day a little happier: chirping birds, breezy like rides, sweet-smelling flowers, and other lovely little things to put a smile on your face. If you can't get the calendar, try the tiny book version.

Meredith's Jars of Joy

This little jar of joy was created as a daily reminder to be present in every moment, and to be kind and uplifting to others. The quotes are meant to inspire you to be the best you can be. It's a simple daily reminder to spread happiness through simple words of reassurance, encouragement and empowerment!

The rules are easy:

  1. Pick one quote every morning when you wake up.
  2. No trying again for a better one! Whatever you receive is exactly what you are meant to hear on that specific day.
  3. Carry the quote around the entire day. If you can't figure out what it means in the morning, having it with you while you’re out and about can help you connect it to your life.
  4. If one quote specifically speaks to you, keep it with you or share it with a friend.
  5. Get yours at www.meredithsjarsofjoy.com

It's easy to get caught up in the go-go-go of life (after all, 'tis the season), but these four finds will help keep you (and me!) grounded.
