Old MacDonald Had A Farm – Dancing Farm Animals Craft

Let’s make Old MacDonald’s dancing farm animal friends! This fun craft makes a great activity to help teach children about animals and the sounds they make and it makes a great teaching resource when teaching the song “Old MacDonald Had a Farm.” Songs like this are a super way to build a little learner’s animal vocabulary and adding these dancing farm animals will make the lesson twice as nice.

The animals included in this craft are the animals featured in one of our versions of the classic song Old MacDonald Had A Farm, linked here. You will be making a pig, duck, horse, sheep, cow and turkey. Let’s get started!

Things you’ll need

Free Printable Resource Sheet
Scissors
Clear Tape
Glue stick
White glue
Popsicle sticks
Yarn, thick and thin
Beads, big and small

First, cut out all of your animals from the resource sheet.

Glue a popsicle stick to the back of each animal with one end sticking out to make your handle. (TIP: Leave some room below the popsicle stick so you have room to attach the legs later.)

Now you can make the legs! Choose some yarn and beads for each animal.

Next, cut four lengths of yarn for each farm animal. (The duck and the turkey only need two each.) To make the feet, tie a few knots in the bottom of each leg and slide the bead over it so that it fits securely. Add some white glue to the knot and let the legs and feet dry in place.

When the legs are dry, line them up so they hang at the same length and attach them to the back of your animals with a piece of clear tape. You can trim away any extra string or yarn.
