100 Amazing Thrift Store Decor Ideas

Each month throughout the year, I come together with the thrift store decor team to bring you a fabulous new makeover each month.

A makeover can be very simple like just spray painting the object or maybe just polishing it up. Regardless of how elaborate it might be, that donated item that might look a little sad on the store shelf is getting a whole new lease on life in your home.

My point is that you will find a wide range of makeovers from the minimal to the oh, my what a transformation…..I'm blown away look.

The big takeaway……..

  • you are saving money
  • you are creating an eclectic look
  • it is unique to your home
  • you might find a diamond in the rough
  • a hidden gem
  • you are saving things from ending up in the trash

How Does this Month Work

Many years ago, we essentially decided to take the month of December off from creating new thrift store content. It's a busy time, and it's all about the holidays. Would you believe that I am an original member of the team? That's a lot of THRIFT STORE MAKEOVERS! The team at present…..rocks!!!!

What we do is add all of our projects from the year into one comprehensive post that features all of this year's ideas in one handy dandy location. Make sure you PIN it so that you can refer to it easily as needed.

I have gone through the list to select my favorite from each team member. Y'all it was a super hard decision. This group of ladies is amazingly talented.

My 4 Favorites from Our Southern Home (me)

windmill art on table

I really love this DIY European art that Ashlyn and I worked to create for her and Tim's apartment. It's really a simple project with an easy tweak with some printable art.

bar cabinet with quartz top

I think this is my absolute favorite for the entire year. This piece started out as the top of a hutch. Ashlyn worked a lot to transform it into a functional bar cabinet for their apartment.

dog sleeping in chair

This stool was my first try using oven cleaner to strip the finish off of wood. It worked! This stool is from the thrift store as well as the fabric used to cover it.

close up of seating chart

Ashlyn was married in September. It was an amazing day! The DIY seating chart was a big hit. The wedding venue loved it so much that they shared it in the bridal private Facebook group. I'll be doing an entire wedding series in the new year. Lots to share.

My Favorites from the Team

candle in wooden bowl
DIY Candle in a Thrift Store Wooden Bowl from Domestically Speaking

I have never tried my hand at candle making but think of all the unique gifts that you could make with all the thrift store bowls and adorable saucers.

shutter made into an organizer
Thrift Store Shutter Mail Organizer from My Repurposed Life

I've used shutters to make necklace holders, but this mail organizer is fabulous!

DIY Mercury Glass from Petticoat Junktion

Mercury glass can be expensive. This looks as great as anything I've seen at Pottery Barn!

vase on top of books with flowers
DIY Aged Vase Tutorial from My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia

I have a set of colored urns that would look fabulous with this technique. What a wonderful update.

Weaving Pizza Pan Art from Sadie Seasongoods

I have got to find a pizza pan with holes. I want to make these for the lake house Airbnb.

tiered tray stand
DIY Tiered Tray Stand from House of Hawthornes

Tiered stands are so versatile for food use to organize jewelry and craft supplies. I love the mixed-matched plates for this look.

blue painted ice box
Ice Box End Table Upcycle from Organized Clutter

We have an old taller ice chest upstairs. I'm tempted to paint it. I've never cared for the finish. I just love how the hardware stands out against the paint.

small ladder amke
Upcycled Step Ladder from Reinvented Deleware

This works for an old step ladder we have in the garage. I've never thought of making the risers deeper to accommodate plants. This will be fabulous on our screen porch!

Vintage Trash Can Upcycle from Shop at Blu

I've upcycled a few trash cans, but never with a layered paint finish like this. It is quite the transformation.
