Making an accent table for an outdoor patio or deck is super easy if you go with the idea shared on bybrittanygoldwyn. Here you can see concrete pavers being repurposed and used as a top for the table. You can use a single paver if you want to make a small side table or you can include several if you’re making a coffee table or something bigger. This idea can actually also work if you’re refreshing an old existing table since you can just put a new top on it and call it a day.

Pallet planter

Pallet wood is a really great resource for lots of different DIY projects, like this scalloped planter for example. The overall shape makes it a bit more interesting than just a regular rectangular planter and is a small detail that you too might like to embrace. A single wood planter would be enough to make something like this. You can find all the details regarding this project in the tutorial from charlestoncrafted.

Welcome sign

The welcome sign featured on cappersfarmer would look wonderful out in the yard or by the front door and the best part about it is that you can customize it however you like. Making it is pretty easy. All you need is some wood boards, glue, paint and a few other supplies. The rope decorations on the front add a bit of interesting without standing out too much.

This would have to come from an actual clock, perhaps an old one which you no longer like.

Even though magazine files are pretty cheap and easy to come by, they’re not necessarily as sturdy or as simple as you’d want them to be and if you’d craft them yourself out of plywood you’d actually save some money too. Shelves are incredibly versatile and really great because you can add them to a space even after after you’ve pretty much completed the interior design or renovation. The ones featured on creativeinchicago would be perfect for this purpose.

Potting bench

A potting bench is a really thing to have if you enjoy spending time outside in the yard or in the garden tending to your flowers, herbs or veggies. The bench can include a little sink, a counter space and a shelf at the bottom that you can use for storage to keep a few extra pots, some gardening tools and so on. You can even include a backdrop that you can hang stuff on. Check out thehandymansdaughter to see how you can build this bench yourself.

Pallet side table

As you probably know, pallet wood is a magnificent resource for all sorts of DIY projects. Wooden pallets are inexpensive and you can even get them for free. Take them apart and use the boards to build something new, like a side table that you can put in your bedroom, in the living room or next to your desk so you can have a bit of extra storage for a few books, some decorations and so on. Building one is easy and you can find a tutorial for that on makingmanzanita.

Outdoor steps

It’s not just furniture and decorations that can be made out of wood but also some more basic things like some patio steps for example. This may not seem like the type of project you should do yourself but when you think about there’s nothing really complicated about stairs or steps in general. Just check out these ones from themerrythought. They look so nice and they really fit the space around them. They’re made of reclaimed lumber and they’re a little bit wider than the door so you can also put a few small planters on them.

Rolling planter

If you can’t decide on a permanent spot for your plants, perhaps it would be better to be able to move them around them. A rolling planter box lets you easily do that and is perfect for both outdoor and indoor areas. You can make one yourself if you have some wood and you can customize it so it fits in a particular spot or so it matches the surroundings. In any case, the design featured on kleinworthco should be a great starting point.

Tall planter

It looks really nice when you display plants on either side of the front door, on the patio or in the corner of a room. Tall planters are great because they let you elevate a small plant and bring it to eye level, making it look more imposing. This one is simple and made out of wood. It’s a tall and narrow box with a little bit of rope as a decorative detail. Check out cherishedbliss to see how it was made.

Cold frame garden beds

In case you didn’t know, cold frames are designed to keep plants nice and cozy and to extend the growing season, protecting them from sudden drops of temperature in spring and autumn. The lids are also great for keeping insects and wildlife at bay. You can build cold frame garden beds yourself out of wood and a few other things and it would be a fairly simple and very satisfying project. There’s a detailed tutorial on danslelakehouse which explains everything about it.

Accent wall

Another use of wood in interior design is accent walls. You can use reclaimed wood or regular boards to cover up a wall or a portion of it as a way to add texture or color to a room. It’s a great way to make space feel more warm and welcoming. Also, the wood can be stained or painted which allows for customization. Check out aspensummit for more details.

That means you could potentially build one yourself out of some wood and with the help of some screws and glue. Here’s a super simple design idea from ilovetocreateblog that you could try. It can be adapted to other sizes if necessary and you can stain or paint the wood in whatever color you prefer.
